Hi, I’m Jolene – Author, Marketer, and Your Guide to Making Sense of This Whole Book Marketing Thing

The Story

Let me guess: You poured your heart into writing your book. You made it through the publishing process. And now you’re sitting here thinking, “Okay… how do I actually get people to read this?”

I’ve been there. Multiple times, actually.

I’m an author of 13 books (10 non-fiction, 3 fiction), a digital marketing consultant, web designer, and someone who genuinely loves helping other authors navigate the overwhelming world of book marketing. But more importantly, I’m someone who understands that most of us didn’t get into writing because we love marketing—we got into it because we love stories and ideas.

The marketing part? That’s the stuff we have to figure out so our books can actually reach the readers who need them.

My Background (The Relevant Parts)

The Academic Credentials

I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Social Media at the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Mass Communications (graduating May 2027). Yes, I’m literally studying this stuff at the graduate level while simultaneously doing it in the real world.

But here’s what matters more than the degree: I’m learning the latest strategies and research while testing everything with actual authors and small businesses. Theory meets practice, and you get the benefit of both.

The Real-World Experience

  • 25+ years of website design experience
  • 15+ years of blogging and audience building
  • 3 years as Social Media Coordinator for First Coast Romance Writers
  • 3 years as Publicity Director and Social Media Manager for Sunshine State Book Festival
  • 2 years with Northeast Florida Sisters in Crime
  • 13 published books across fiction (steampunk mystery romance) and non-fiction (author marketing guides)
  • Countless hours helping indie authors with website design, cover design, book formatting, publishing, and marketing

In other words, I don’t just teach this stuff—I live it every single day.

Why I Created These Courses

For years, I’ve offered one-on-one training sessions for authors who needed personalized help with marketing, websites, and social media. And while I loved the intimate, customized nature of those sessions, I realized something:

Not everyone can afford $200 for a two-hour session.

And more importantly, not everyone needs that level of hand-holding. Many authors just need clear, step-by-step guidance they can follow at their own pace.

So I’m converting all my most popular training sessions into self-paced courses that give you the same practical, no-nonsense information—but at a fraction of the cost and on your schedule.

My Teaching Philosophy

No Tech Jargon

I speak human, not techie. If I use a term that might be unfamiliar, I explain it. My goal is to make you feel capable, not confused.

Practical Over Perfect

I don’t teach complex strategies that require a team of 10 people to execute. I teach what actually works for solo authors with limited time and budgets.

Honest About What Works (And What Doesn’t)

I’m not here to sell you on every shiny marketing tactic out there. I’ll tell you what’s worth your time and what’s not, based on real results from real authors.

You’re Building a Business

Whether you think of it this way or not, your author career is a small business. I help you treat it like one—with strategy, consistency, and smart resource allocation.

Beyond the Classroom

When I’m not teaching or consulting, you might find me:

  • Writing my own steampunk mystery romance novels under the pen name L.J. Green
  • Hosting my podcast “Jolene’s Book and Writers Talk”
  • Planning my next solo travel adventure (I’m a big advocate for solo women travelers and volunteer workamping)
  • Working on my capstone project—a mobile app to help solo women explore Florida’s public lands safely
  • Connecting with fellow authors on Substack, YouTube, and various social platforms

Yes, I practice what I preach. I maintain multiple platforms, consistently create content, and build genuine connections with readers and fellow writers. And I do it all without burning out or spending 12 hours a day glued to my phone.

That’s what I want for you too.

What You Can Expect From Me

Honesty: I won’t overpromise. If something takes consistent effort, I’ll tell you upfront.

Clarity: No vague advice like “just be authentic” or “post consistently.” I give you specific, actionable steps.

Empathy: I remember what it felt like to be overwhelmed by marketing. I meet you where you are, with no judgment.

Real Resources: Everything I recommend has been tested—either by me or by authors I’ve worked with. No fluff, no affiliate link chasing.

Let’s Work Together

Whether you’re taking my free introductory course or investing in a full platform training, my commitment is the same: to give you practical, proven strategies that actually work for indie and hybrid authors.

You wrote the book. Now let me help you get it in front of the readers who’ll love it.

One More Thing

I’m also a huge believer in continuous learning. The digital marketing landscape changes constantly, and what worked two years ago might not work today. That’s why I’m constantly updating my knowledge (hello, graduate school!) and testing new strategies.

When you learn from me, you’re not getting outdated information from someone who stopped paying attention in 2015. You’re getting current, relevant strategies that work in today’s environment.

Now, let’s get your books in front of readers.
